Remembering to be thankful

IMG_5913a

Last week I spent some time with about 30 of our staff members who work on helping communities that have scripture available use it in their churches and daily life.  They came together from several African countries for a consultation in Nairobi.  What a great group.  These guys are involved in creating media tools to make scripture accessible to those that can’t yet read.  They help churches create Sunday school materials in their local languages.  They help communities deal with issues like AIDS and healing from trauma by translating materials on these subjects (which include appropriate scripture) into local languages and helping to lead workshops on these types of topics.

As I reflect on what I heard about and learned, I am thankful for:

  • Hearing about how God is at work in Africa
  • Amazing colleagues from many nations who are working together to see God’s mission to transform lives accomplished
  • Easy access to scripture and other materials about God’s word in my own language.  I take this for granted, but many people don’t have a single verse of scripture accessible to them in a language they can understand well.
