Bonjour du Togo!
My colleague, Susan, and I are traveling in Togo and Benin for about 10 days in order to connect with the leaders of Wycliffe Togo and Wycliffe Benin and learn more about the local context where they are working. These organizations are recruiting Togolese and Beninese believers to serve in Bible translation. Learning about this context will be important to knowing how to share stories from this part of the world. It’s exciting to hear about what about what Wycliffe Togo and Wycliffe Benin are doing, and I’m looking forward to what we will learn and experience.
The flying distance between Nairobi and Lome (the capital of Togo) is almost the same as it is between New York City and Los Angeles. It’s over 2000 miles and 3 time zones, except when we arrived there was a new national language (French) and currency (West African Franc). We drive from here to Cotonu, Benin on Friday. It’s only about 4 hours by car, but it’s another new time zone. The national language and currency are the same in Benin as here in Togo.
My impressions of Togo so far–> it’s not as hot as I thought it would be (been in the low to mid 80s F). The terrain is lush and green. The people are friendly. The clothing is beautiful and colorful.
